New Plates

Every so often, the State of Wyoming kicks out new license plates. Today, we updated the status of our cow hauler.

The far left numbers are the county. Washakie County, back home, is 20. This plate has been out for a while. I think the scene is over by the Green River.

Change never comes easy. This new plate looks to be a replica of the State flag.

Should be good for another year of ranching.

Giddy up.

The main feature that all State plates retain, is Steamboat, the iconic bucking horse. As long as it’s prominent, I guess the can live with whatever else is on the plate. Let’s ranch!

  1. As an oddball factoid, the horse might actually be Red Wing. Red Wing was used as the symbol of the Wyoming Army National Guard during World War One, and was one of the horses that had been acquired as an officers mount at the beginning of the war. It's often claimed that the state adopted the Guard's symbol for the license plate, and its certainly similar to the design. More on that here, fwiw: https://lexanteinternet.blogspot.com/2017/05/that-horse-on-license-plate-everyone.html

    1. I've heard that it was not necessarily Steamboat. Though, it is pretty well who everyone refers to it as. On another note, the bucking horse is copyrighted by the State of Wyoming, not the University. However, the State put the University of Wyoming in charge of any public registration of the horse.

  2. When I was young, which was slightly after the land bridge to Siberia flooded, we used to get new plates every year. They put up a fenced in box in City Park to collect last year's plates. Pretty wasteful, really.

Do you like the new plate? I like it, but I've heard about people who hate it. Locally they're selling so many Wildlife Conservation plates that the County Clerk has given up calling people when they come in. I suspect that's because a lot of people prefer that plate over this one.

On this one, one of three trucks and a car have reserve plates on them, so I have to go with this one for those.

    1. Good stuff. I don't hate the plate. It'll grow on me. I just don't like that it's so dark.

With our field now in pasture, we decided to pick up some replacement heifers and run them on the ranch. Neiber was the last name of Mom...
